круто (KROO-tuh) is an informal Russian adverb/exclamation meaning “cool,” “awesome,” “great,” or sometimes “that’s great!” It is commonly used to react enthusiastically to news, an idea, or an experience.

It comes from крутой (kroo-TOY), which originally meant “steep” or “sharp,” but developed slang senses such as “tough,” “impressive,” and “cool.” Common close expressions include классно (KLAHS-nuh, “cool/great”), здорово (zdoh-ROH-vuh, “great”), and супер (SOO-pehr, “super”).

   This intends to say, “Yesterday’s concert was cool,” but standard Russian would normally use крутым (kroo-TYM) here.

   “Cool, let’s try it!”
